Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth that can help you restore your smile. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and improve the overall appearance of your face.

There are two types available - complete and partial dentures.

Complete dentures

They are used when all the teeth are missing and they can be either "conventional" or "immediate."

Conventional dentures are made and placed in your mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed. They are ready for placement about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.

Immediate dentures are made in advance and therefore positioned on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. As a result, you do not have to be without teeth during the healing period following tooth removal. However, immediate dentures require more adjustments to fit properly during the healing process and generally should only be considered a temporary solution until conventional dentures are made.

Partial Dentures

They are used when one or more natural teeth remain. Not only do they fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, they also prevent other teeth from changing position.

When to Get Dentures

If you think you might be a candidate, we invite you to schedule an appointment with our distinguished dentist Dr. Harouni who can evaluate your specific needs and recommend appropriate treatment.

How Long Does the New Denture Process Take?

Once the dentist has examined you and determined you are a candidate, the process can begin immediately. The period of time between being fitted with your immediate and later on permanent dentures can vary, depending on your individual situation.

Care and Hygiene

Just like natural teeth, dentures also require regular care. We recommend cleaning them after every meal in order to remove food particles and plaque. Here at Dr. Harouni’s dental practice we will be happy to give you further advice.

Replacing Existing Dentures

Over time dentures can wear down, stain, and lose their shape. Consequently, they may become less comfortable as the size and shape of your mouth changes. We advise you to see a dentist if:

Myths and Facts

Some common misconceptions are, e.g., that it will take a lifetime to get used to the new dentures. They are a substitute for your natural teeth and therefore you will need a period of adjustment. Some patients feel comfortable with their “new teeth” in a week, some need more time. The fact is, your facial muscles and oral tissues will adapt in a very short time and you should soon feel quite comfortable with them. If not, contact your dentist. You might need a simple adjustment.

Contrary to popular belief, you will be able to eat foods like apples and corn on the cob. Even though adjustment to eating with dentures takes some time, you will learn to bite and chew in a slightly different way. Dr. Harouni will be happy to help you work through any problems you encounter.

For most patients, today’s dentures are comfortable, natural-looking, and they have helped millions of people live normal lives. Here at Dr. Harouni’s dental practice we will gladly answer any questions you may have about the whole process.
